Cisco Prime Inline Upgrade Procedure
Hello,
In this article you will get to know how to upgrade Cisco prime from 3.8 to 3.9. Please refer below steps.
Step:1
Download all image files and latest patches from Cisco website. See
below for reference.
Step3: Login to CLI of Cisco prime using Admin account and then go to shell mode by typing “shell” in CLI
Step4:- Create a user for WinSCP so that we
can transfer image to Prime CLI. Follow below procedure.
In Shell
mode of Cisco Prime run below commands:
Sudo -i
cd //localdisk/defaultRepo/
Adduser
<username>
Passwd
<Pwd>
It will ask for new password then you can change it to new one.
Step5:- Open WinSCP application then click
on new session.
In Hostname
section put Cisco Prime IP and in username and Password put which was
created in step4.
Click on
login and then you can drag and drop whichever file you want to send it to
Cisco Prime CLI or vice versa from CLI to your local machine.
Step6:- Copy backup files from Prime server
to your local machine.
Step7:- Take a snapshot of VM. Login to vSphere
and identify Cisco Prime VM and right click and take VM snapshot.
Step8:- Remove the backups files under the
defaultRepo. Use below command in Prime CLI Shell mode
Rm -rf
<Backup file name>
Step9:- Stop all running services. Use below
command.
ncs stop
Step
10:- Get console
access of Prime server via Vsphere client. Use same admin account username and
password.
Step
11:- Run application upgrade command.
application
upgrade PI-Upgrade-37x_38x_to_3.9.0.0.219.tar.gz defaultRepo
This step
can take several hours to complete, depending on the size of the application
database.
Step12:-
Post upgrade checks
Once it’s
done , check the version “show version” and services status “ncs
status” and try to access the web GUI to confirm if all historical data is
there .
Step13:- Upload remaining patch files via
GUI.
Navigate
to Administration-Γ License and
Software updatesΓ Software updates.
Click on
upload and upload all patch files. Then Install the patch files one by one.
In this
process you will loose the GUI access of Cisco prime for 15 min or more .
